Some jerk set the fire alarm off at 0700 hours and just as we are about to dash out the door passports and wallets in hand it stops so we return to bed for another hours sleep. This morning we walked up to the Freemasons Lodge to do a Traditional and a Wherigo cache. Luckily we did the former first as it gave us a name, Albert Pike, to give to the tour guide to win some thing and that something was a free tour inside. It was truly amazing and the young man guiding us was very knowledgeable, educated and interesting. It lasted about 1 hour and then we finished the Wherigo and walked home via the whole foods shop where we bought lunch and tonight's dinner.
The Masonic Temple of the Scottish Rite
George Washington, the first of many Presidents who were Freemason's.
The main meeting room of the 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite
Now a museum as there is no aircon.
On the table in front are the "five" bibles. Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Hindi
The two men in the photo are "brothers" who were on the tour with us.
Robbie Burns, a revered Freemason.
They have a huge library of his works. The largest outside Scotland.
A museum room of the collections of one of their leaders. He was a head man in NASA
This afternoon we walked in another direction, did a few caches including a visit to Ghandi's memorial in Embassy Row outside the Indian embassy.
Outside the Indonesian Embassy
An old "fire" phone box in the street.
Then we caught the bus back and watched Mr and Mrs Smith and had a cuppa. We will have a swim, dinner and then go out for our last night and see The Monuments by night.
Just a random photo.
The umbrellas are over the hotel swimming pool.
Our neighbour, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association.
Washington by night.
We wandered out at 8pm, caught a bus to the Mall and followed the GPS to Einstein's memorial. Another beautiful sculpture in this city of memorials and monuments. We then retraced our steps from our first day in DC to check the tourist route out by night. Vietnam, Lincoln, Korean, Martin Luther King Jr, FDR, Jefferson and Washington. Bus back to the box 3hrs and 4 or 5 km later. Our expectations were greater than the experience. Lincoln and Washington were stunning by night.
Thomas Jefferson by night
We rose at 0630, checked out, 15 min taxi to Reagan (DCA) and hopped on our 2hr 30 flight to Fort Meyers (RSW).
I had a few caches (of course) that I wanted to do around RSW and then back to Suzi's haven. We thought we were hot and sticky in New York and New England. Florida reminded us what hot and muggy really is. It was like stepping into a humid oven.
At one cache we couldn't find the cache but we did find three semi automatic rifles lying in the swampy grass. Welcome to Florida.
